Shooting The Milky Way At Ballintoy

On Wednesday morning, a very last minute plan was hatched to hit the Causeway Coast to shoot some sunset and astro images.  The weather was horrible – heavy rain and blustery gales.  BUT, the forecast predicted that by early evening, things would have improved, and it was predicting clear skies for most of the night.

I met up with a couple of other photographers, Tyler Collins & Alistair Hamill, and we headed off to explore some of the sea stacks in and around Elephant Rock.

Thankfully weather conditions improved and we were treated to a beautiful night under a blanket of stars.  As an added bonus we also witnessed not one but two passes by the International Space Station which is always a privilege to see as it hurtles across the sky at 17,500 mph!

If you’d like to learn how to shoot images of the night sky, then why not check out my Astro Workshops which I run alongside Tyler Collins.  We have two more dates available in May and September.  Places on the May Workshop are limited so please book now to avoid disappointment.

Mother’s Day gift Ideas – Northern Ireland Landscapes

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and this Sunday lots of people will be treating their mums but this year why not pick up something a bit more special than usual.

We know that mums love perfume, make up and breakfast in bed but we would love you to consider purchasing a beautiful landscape. Here is why they are the perfect gift:

1/ Our Northern Ireland landscape prints are available in Middletown in Ballymena, Bothy at Whitepark Bay and also Winnies in Broughshane. There are three great locations which are worth a visit alone and when you are in you can have a browse through some of the most stunning Northern Irish landscapes. They are the perfect size for a gift and are high quality to make sure the colours and landscapes are perfect. The price range is perfect for any budget.

2/ It is more thoughtful than ‘the usual’.

Buying for you mum is always a difficult task. Once you have picked up their favourite perfume and a bunch of flowers for Christmas and birthdays sometimes it is easy to run out of inspiration. But imagine how surprised your mother would if you picked up a photograph which means a lot to both of you. Maybe you loved a family trip to Ballintoy Harbour for an ice cream, or have a giggle when you remember you and your mum trying to climb Slemish together! Take a browse through our print store and you might spot something which is special to you!

    3/ It will last forever.

Unlike a bunch of flowers, or a new nail polish a Steven Hanna landscape will last forever. Pop it into a frame, or hang it up or prop it up on the mantlepiece and enjoy it forever. We love the idea of picking up a print, wrapping it up and organising a brilliant day out. Our perfect Mother’s Day involves a quick drive up the road together to the Coast, tanking in the sights, stopping at Dunluce Castle and presenting mum with this print. From there we think a trip to Bothy for a cuppa and a cake is the perfect end to you day out! View more about Bothy Coffee here.

    Bad Eddie Shipwreck

There’s a draw to the north west coastline of Ireland that I’m struggling to shake off.  A need to explore the ruggedness and rawness of some of the most secluded and isolated stretches of beaches, cliffs, headlands and shipwrecks that Donegal has to offer.
